Studio 6 – Emily Street Shed

I once hand-carved a wooden spoon and subsequently found different carving and finishing techniques. Wooden birds are my frequent creations, but I also explore the potential of discarded wood such as driftwood, old tree roots, and sawmill offcuts. Items that are utilitarian and perhaps unattractive can become unique and distinctive through these processes. I have made several automata and enjoy winding the handles to experience feedback with the fascination of adults and children alike.
